A myAIHAteam Subscriber asked a question 💭

During my AIHA recovery period and steroid treatment the worst symptom was feeling FREEZING inside from 11 am to 8 pm (exactly) every day, regardless of air temperature. For 6 months after steroid cessation I was fine but for the past three months I keep having episodes of feeling cold for 1,2 or 3 days every 4 or 5 days.
Why?

Why are you experiencing recurring cold episodes during AIHA recovery?

These recurring cold episodes could indicate that your AIHA is not fully controlled or may be flaring up periodically. Even after stopping steroids, AIHA can remain active or return, causing symptoms like feeling abnormally cold.

Cold sensations in AIHA happen when:
* Autoantibodies become active and destroy red blood cells
* Your tissues don't get enough oxygen due to reduced red blood cells
* Your extremities and body struggle to maintain normal temperature

The pattern you're describing—feeling cold for a few days every 4-5 days—suggests your immune system may still be producing autoantibodies intermittently. This can happen even during what seems like a recovery period.

It's important to contact your doctor or hematologist about these recurring episodes. They may want to:
* Check your blood counts to see if hemolysis is occurring
* Evaluate whether your AIHA is becoming active again
* Consider adjusting your treatment plan if needed

Don't wait to address this—recurring symptoms could mean your condition needs closer monitoring or different treatment approaches to prevent more serious complications.
