i want to explain how prednisone and alike work in AIHA: is like a daily management and u can lower the dose to the most acceptable one. but is not curing you. think of it as daily insulin for diabetes. that how is working. rituximab works for a longer period of time, a few months to 2 years after one month or 2 months infusions. u need to take pred everyday and start again every morning ( the next day) to stop hemolysis or to slow it down. when u stop pred , the hemolysis process begins again if u dont have pred in your system. depending on how fast the hemolysis process is , u can lose altmost 4 points of hg per month with no medication (unless u had rituximab infusions) or in better cases 2 points per month. i lost 0.6 points of hg when i tried to tapper pred one day a pill of pred (5mg) and one day no pred in one week i think. now i have 10 mg pred per day, iron , mag bisgyciante, foic acid. mag bis is doing wonders , it can raise hg to 0.5 per month without dropping. if it works, your doctor will think u get free of AIHA but is not, is from mag bis that acts like a booster. u need to track meds and results to prove a point. and to see how hg drops to see that u are not in fact getting rid of aiha.
My son took hormones for 6 months. Relapse after stopping corticosteroids most often occurs during the first 3 weeks to 3 months. After three weeks of stopping, we saw a decrease in the indicators and the absence of haptoglobin. Although reticulocytes and hemoglobin were normal, the absence of haptoglobin indicates the resumption of hemolysis, and therefore a relapse.
