What Is A Common Treatment Protocol For Someone With Mixed AIHA?
A myAIHAteam Member asked a question 💭

I have recently learned that I have cold autoimmune hemolytic anemia as well as warm AIHA. Does treatment differ? I have been treated with prednisone, rituximab and am currently taking Azathioprine immunosuppressant. I would like to hear from anyone with a similar diagnosis. No end to the adventure🙈

Forgot to add that I was initially on 60 MG per day if prednisone for 7 months witch didn't improve my AIHA. Now I have severe osteoporosis due to excessive use of prednisone.

I have warm and cold AIHA. Rituximab has put me in remission twice. I'm relapsing again and will do another round of Rituxan. There is no cure for this disease so relapses are inevitable.

Hi Joann I have lupus and cold autoimmune anemia I have had thelis since 2003 so prednisone stopped working as well after a few years on and off the medicine I am now on a antiviral medicine called hydroxychloroquine that seem to help the best for my body and on steroids called methylprednisolone that help me alot with my lupus being active again.so I would say the treatments are very similar.

I am back on medium levels of prednisone as I was melting into a puddle. We are going back to the drawing board as my haematologist team is perplexed. Another bone biopsy, more different blood work…….sigh…….something else must be going on.
I never ever thought I would say the I was good with prednisone. but. … at least I can function….what a rollercoaster this journey is.
